Spades in a nutshell

Played with the full 52-card deck by four players in fixed partnerships, 13 cards each, 13 tricks per hand. Each player bids the number of tricks they expect to take (0 is a "nil" bid). Spades are always trump and cannot be led until broken. Making your team's bid scores 10 points per trick bid plus one per overtrick ("bag"); failing the bid loses 10 per trick bid. Ten bags cost 100 points. The first team to 500 points wins (or 300 in the short house rule).
